In the summer of 2009 outside of the barn on the Cornerstone Farm in Bushell, Il, Kevin Oneel and Dave Richards stood between two cars discussing their future as producers. Both had reached a make or break point in their music careers where they needed to take the next step. Kevin had already tried his hand at running the label TekTak. Dave Richards had experience running the online community Tastyfresh.com and they had worked together for several years now producing the Afterhours stage at the Cornerstone Music Festival. The next logical step seemed to be the start of a label. It was about this time that Joel Armstrong stopped by and the two asked him about how Dot Dot got its start. After that, both Kevin and Dave dropped the idea for about three months.
In September, they picked the idea back up and started to lay the groundwork for what would become MK837. With the aid of Chris “Deeflash” Reiche, MK837 was forged on January 2, 2010. The label was founded not as a venue for solely their material, but as a proving ground for new artists and as a label built on quality, originality, integrity and respect.
Today, MK837 continues its growth and has close to 40 releases in stores worldwide involving over 40 artists from around the world. Not a slave to the hottest fashion or a one size fits all style, MK837 strives to bring you some of the best breaks, house and indie dance from some of the freshest faces on the scene. If you’re looking for something different, MK837 is kinda like your crazy Uncle Eddie with the lazy eye. You have no idea why you like him so much, but without him, the family would have no character.
