About

  • The Tokonoma is a type of alcove located in the reception hall of a traditional upstanding Japanese house. It is where the most revered art of the family is kept on display for visiting guests to enjoy. Typically, this is where two precious objects are placed side by side: a bonsai (an artform where a plant is crafted adhering to Japanese tradition and principles) and a Koan (ancient scroll featuring notable sayings and actions of Zen masters and disciples attempting to pass on their teachings). Tokonoma Records is a new, upcoming record label born in Madrid but with the Japanese culture as essence. It is created and run by Antonio Chávez (aka Anthonius), composer and music producer, who brings together visual artists and musicians from different parts of the World.
Our motivation is simple: to apply the same disciplines of the art of bonsai to the art of making music. This is achieved by practicing patience and care. Music that seeks to preserve the most hidden folklore is merged and inspired with the sonic spectrum of electronica.
Ambient, DownBeat, Japanese New Wave, African Beats, World Music will be at the core of this project and will embrace both new releases as well as reissue projects. Label's Designer: Takumi Tomita Marketing Strategist Manager: Dubplate Foundation
