Let’s start on the right foot, now: there’s nothing particularly new about the advent of starting a record label. We know that. It’s already a crowded industry, with an often repetitive panorama where many are doing much of the same and using the same words to describe similar pieces of music with pretty much the same propositions going on for too long. We decided to strip bare the hype, bring the music up front and, for once, be self aware of the irony.
PERCEBES is an editorial project conceived by portuguese veteran producer and dj Ka§par (in charge of concept, content, sound mixing, engineering and mastering), with the help of his friends and collaborators - Pedro Caldeirão (A&R and agent), Sara Sirvoicar (head designer and creator of the awesome logo) and Mariana Cruz (a.k.a Sheri Vari).
Why the funny name? PERCEBES is the portuguese word used for gooseneck barnacle, that odd looking mollusc animal, clinged to the hooves of sea vessels and rocks. It is also a delicacy (you can ask for it in the finest sea food places for no cheap price - hope you start to get where we’re coming from). Lastly, it’s also, the verb “to understand”. So when you say “Percebes?” in portuguese (as a question), you are asking “do you get it?”, “do you understand?”. So we don’t want the whole world to follow us, we just want those who get it to join in. So… if you get it, if you understand, you’re already part of this.
