Modul8 Recordings was established in January 2018, the overnight hunch by rising House & Techno talent Kyle James.
We sit down with the young musician to talk about all things Modul8 as the label celebrates its 1st Birthday.
So tell us. What is Modul8 all about?
Erm well basically I curated the label a year ago, obviously, as a way for me to be able to release music that I would sometimes/ almost all of the time.. struggle to sign, not because of quality (imo) but because its the kind of music that doesn't sell to masses. At the time I was making a lot of Minimal House but also some real hard, driving Techno.
What was the 1st release and how well was it received?
Well to be honest with you, I was actually pretty shocked myself when I released Reus, it got really good support, I never went to Beatport for my 1st release, partly because I was itching to get the record out into the open without having to wait.
I had a lot of support from DJ's, friends, and both combined. Which still to this day. means the world to me.
Since then you went on to release a two more EP's and another single, was it always your initial plan to release your own music instead of using a label?
That's a good question.. I think for me labels are the key representation of the music, and at the time a lot of my material wasn't the easiest to pin to a certain sound, I didn't really know who to send it too.. so they were naturally assigned to come out via Modul8.

And last but not least to wrap up our quick coverage, what do you have planned for the imprint in 2019, any parties?
Ok so. I'm back with 1st release of '19 in April (at least I think so). I'm taking demo's at the moment from select artists and putting together a VA which will l hopefully appear around ADE time. Other stuff is tight lipped for now, as much as I'd love to tell
