Matt Langrish-Smith, London’s boy-about-town (speaking in terms of underground deep house music ‘town’), is launching a new promotions company this month and with it he will bring some new events to London’s ever-changing and evolving club scene.
If you haven’t heard of him, a quick bio includes 3 years in Advertising at DMC, 5 years as Head of Events at Papa Records taking their monthly party ‘Messages’ to the next level with successful soulful house events at Home Bar, Salmon & Compass, and Marketplace playing alongside some fresh DJ talent including Andy Compton (UK), Patrick Wilson (San Francisco), 83 West (Toronto), Jihad Muhammad (NYC), Manoo (France), Karizma (Baltimore), Ralf Gum (Germany) and others.
In 2009, Matt collaborated with Dean Zepherin to set up Tribe Records UK (record label and events company). Simply wanting to inject new life into dance music that had a more worldly approach to its sound, Tribe set out to promote positive communities through their international events and record releases. Tribe quickly established residences based in Paris, Miami and London amongst featured performances around the world, they managed to build a loyal following of people across many cultures and backgrounds.
With releases stretching from South Africa to North America and back to Europe, Tribe’s catalogue built an impressive track record in a short space of time. Receiving love and support from the worlds Top DJs in the deep house genre.
3 years on, and Matt always on the look-out for what’s new or upcoming (some may call it HDAD), has now taken on his next endeavor and hence Makin’ Moves is born.
The first Makin’ Moves event will be an all day terrace party at the amazing Brixton Clubhouse (if you haven’t visited their terrace, you don’t know what you’re missing out on - Two levels, fully stocked outdoor bar, hot tub, BBQ and now partially covered so you can enjoy rain or shine) featuring some top deep and soulful house DJ’s alongside Makin’ Moves resident DJs Matt L-S and Jamesey.
There will be more terrace party dates released later this summer, along with a monthly residents Loft party in Shoreditch to look out for, and more emerging events/ventures still to be announced so keep your eyes locked on this space.
