  • Among other things, this month's show will be asking: what are negative reviews good for?

  • Back in 2015 we published a feature that looked at the devastating effect that Sydney's lockout laws were having on its club scene. This, of course, is an ongoing story, so Matt Unicomb went out to meet the people who have been most affected by the crackdown, finding out how they're adapting in order to keep doing what they love [01:25]. At the beginning of October, RA hosted an event as part of the charity War Child's Film Festival. We welcomed Dr. Beate Peter to the stage, who posed the question: What influence does dance music have on your subconscious? Following the event, Beate was kind enough to record a condensed version of her talk for The Hour [25:30]. We'd go as far as to say that negative record reviews are among the biggest hot-button issues that surround what we do here. We therefore thought it would be interesting to gather Will Lynch, Lisa Blanning and Angus Finlayson, who all regularly write reviews for RA, to hear why they think negative reviews can be necessary [42:00].
