  • In the US underground, a network of gay parties, characterized by smart bookings, unique venues and general creativity, has recently formed. This new wave was inspired in large part by San Francisco's Honey Soundsystem. Their weekly Sunday parties long provided an alternative to the top-40 remixes that pump out of mainstream gay clubs, instead looking back to The Castro district gay scene, which gave rise to Sylvester and Patrick Cowley. 2015 saw the group relaunch their Honey Soundsystem label with releases from Jackie House (Honey's Jacob Sperber) and Bézier (Honey's Robert Yang). The crew has also worked tirelessly to reissue Patrick Cowley's gay porn soundtracks, jointly released with Honey member Josh Cheon's Dark Entries, a label that successfully reflects Honey's stated goal of "meditating on the historical past in order to inform the future." 2015 was Honey's biggest year yet, with Jason Kendig, Cheon, Sperberand Yang embarking on a residency at Smart Bar and taking over Panorama Bar with likeminded US gay promoters such as Honcho and Men's Room, a milieu that now resembles a tight-knit family. All four Honey members recently ran over their colorful histories with Matt McDermott at Sonos Studios in LA.
