  • Peter Gordon is a product of New York's downtown scene of the 1970s and '80s. He's an accomplished saxophonist and the founder of Love Of Life Orchestra, a live experimental disco ensemble that formed in 1977 and still exists to this day. In 2010 the Orchestra was brought to a wider audience thanks to a retrospective on James Murphy's DFA label. Since then, Gordon's career has enjoyed a second wind. He's collaborated with the likes of Factory Floor and Tim Burgess, and in early 2015 he put out a new album, Symphony 5, on which he further explored the middle ground between pop music and the concert hall. In recent times he has also revived the Arthur Russell Instrumentals show—a project that dates back to 1975. With an inter-generational lineup that features original members of the Orchestra alongside the likes of Gavin Russom, the band has lovingly recreated music from Russell's catalogue. Gordon stopped by RA's London office during the UK leg of his latest tour to discuss his lifelong dedication to avant-garde music.
