  • It's rare that you'll hear artists discussing the mistakes they made, or things like their relevancy and the gigs they've hated. And it's this exact reason that made this week's Exchange so refreshing. Layo Paskin and Matthew Benjamin are comfortable enough in their achievements to talk honestly about their two decade careers in dance music. And they're also candid enough to explain that the recently announced end of the Layo & Bushwacka! project was because they think the name no longer resonates with audiences in the way it once did. Much of the respect they command was due to the End, the much-loved London nightclub at which they were both resident DJs and Paskin was the co-owner. Of course, they have also been highly successful producers together, releasing four full-lengths—one of which, Night Works, was put out through XL—and a top 10 single in the UK. We sat down in London last month to reflect on all of this as the pair contemplated their next moves. Thanks to Point Blank Music College in London for the use of their studio.
