  • Roger Linn's Wikipedia page calls him an industrial designer, but it might be more apt to simply label him "visionary." As the man behind the LM-1 Drum Computer, the world's first drum machine to use digital samples, his importance to electronic music can hardly be overstated. Nowadays, Linn's major preoccupation is bringing something called the LinnStrument to life. It aims to bring an unprecedented level of "expressive control" to MIDI keyboards, giving artists the power to more easily mimic instruments like the violin. Linn talked about the challenges of designing the LinnStrument in this Live RA Exchange recorded at this year's Decibel Festival.
