On Day 6 of Klankfest - the new party-concept bringing a variety of sounds to the Concert-hall of Vooruit during the Gentse Feesten – we resolutely choose house, house and more house music. Klankfest will have a break on Tuesday July 21st but Wednesday, July 22nd we will be back with a House night supported by We Play House Recordings and Peep. All party-people should be well-rested and ready for this night. It will be great!
We Play House Recordings is exactly what its name says… a label that embraces and publishes house music in all its forms. Launched in 2008 by the leading Belgian house-DJ Red D as an outlet for the music of San Soda, the We Play House Recordings-label has built up an impressive track record ever since: from various cross-over hits of which FCL’s ‘It’s You’ is of course the biggest one, to numerous underground gems by a wide array of national and international producers. We Play House Recordings has been invited for the 5th year in a row to host a stage at Tomorrowland and has received the Red Bull Elektropedia Award for best label in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
PeeP stands for “Positive & Exceptional Electronic Pleasures”, a concept bringing a breath of fresh air to the house scene with a definite impact on the dancefloor. They have brought a number of great house artists to Ghent such as Carl Craig, Ian Pooley, Âme, Nick Höppner, Ten Walls, Bicep , Robag Wruhme and the list goes on. Peep is very happy to join Belgium’s leading house label We Play House in bringing you the very best that house music has to offer.
The line-up is headed by Swiss maverick Deetron. Having been involved with making and playing music for 20 years now, he is a highly skilled performer who’s constantly in demand around the globe - both in clubs and on festivals where his mind boggling three-deck sets often take precedence. With his special touch on remixes or simply for his own diverse range of productions, Deetron has maintained a high level of quality in every aspect of his career. For Deetron music is everything, and goes beyond the individuals who make and play it. It's in his DNA, thanks to his father who plays double bass, and it’s for this unrelenting passion that he created his own imprint “Character”. Some may know Deetron better as a techno producer but rest assured, for this night, he will fully turn his house mode on and those who know it, know he can do it like the best.
Locked Groove’s strength lies in his uncanny ability to shift between the industrial jams of Berghain and the lighter, deeper tones of spritely Chicago house with real guile and finesse. Both sides of his coin carry strong currency, and effectively showcase his strong natural potential as a long-term artist with a bold, ongoing influence – a true crossover threat. It’s therefore no surprise that none other than Scuba himself has picked up on Locked Groove’s vision and ability, having signed him to Hotflush. He broadened his sound on labels as Permanent Vacation, We Play House Recordings and his own Locked Groove Records. His future looks bright as does his performance on this night.
As mentioned before San Soda was the main reason for Red D to start We Play House Recordings and it’s here that most of his productions have appeared. San Soda is known in underground music circles as a real record collector. It shows in his predictably unpredictable DJ sets, which are made up of carefully chosen gems, unearthed after years of digging. Classic house and techno with a Chicago and Detroit bent are his main preferences, interspersed with cheerful disco, enchanting Afro or timeless electro cuts. Preferring extended sets with proper rotary mixers, he is a gimmick free selector who avoids tricks and effects. Instead he allows the music to play out as it was intended, always with an underlying sense of cohesion.
Red D (feat Lady Linn) has been on the DJ block since 1992 – albeit a very small block in the first 10 years – but if you are an amateur of that big play we call nightlife, chances are you either danced, got drunk or got annoyed while Red D was playing some records. He’s to be found on stages as small as the local bar in his hometown Deinze to as big as Tomorrowland where he’s been hosting his own area for several years, and anything in between. Very often he will take to the stage with Lady Linn with whom he has a very special connection both on a friendship as well as a musical level. Lady Linn is the most versatile female singer in Belgium, period. This little lady has been playing together with Red D as Red D featuring Lady Linn for more than 10 years now, bringing live vocals on top of instrumental house classics, edits, tracks, etc. Together they create magic on stage, inspired by the moment, the crowd and the feeling. Be part of it and join us on Day 6 of Klankfest!
And a profound love and admiration for the deeper, dubbier and soul carving sounds, is also the foundation of what No Shit Like Deep does. They bring sounds that stick to your inner self and that are able to move you. Playing records allows them to share this love with all you dancers. They are constantly in search for the perfect record at the right time and always try to lay down a part of their soul. They are a symbiosis of audio, dancing and imagination and that’s why they are the perfect closures of this night. Come fly with us!
If you do not want to take our word for it, you will have to come and experience it for yourself but our house music does sound better than yours …
However, be sure to also check the other nights of Klankfest, for different sounds and vibes if you truly are a party freak …
