The Static Gallery space is also used for rare but unique parties, club nights, after parties and special events.
The Beat Bazaar presents to you a night of music that aims to capture the essence and energy of seminal eras in dance music. Think 1980s Chicago, Detroit and New York where the ethos was about making the dancefloor move, creating a vibe that was intense and passionate. Where house music, techno and disco would fill the same place as more esoteric sounds of industrial, new wave, italo and whatever else moved the dancefloor.
This is our mission and we are proud to present two very special guests to help us in our quest. Firstly we have, from Chicago - Traxx. Traxx has through his own nation records defined the 'jakbeat' sound. Along with cohorts James t Cotton (j.t.c./tadd mullinix), D'marc Cantu, Steve Summers, Mick Wills and many more, Traxx has taken the classic sounds of chicago electronic music and the influences that make it up and twisted this into a sound that is well, in his own words...
'In detail what defines jakbeat tracks has a lot to do with the jacking feeling and little to do with labels, aesthetics, or any list of synthesizers.
The Jack sound exists in an endless assortment of musics.
For a while it was generally known that you do not need a Roland TB303 to make 'acid'. But as other fashions took control of our house that fundamental understanding was lost...and the aesthetic took over.
A contrived image was left with the masses.
Jakbeat as it has come to be known is a not just a hash back to a golden age of house, its not just a mess of drum beats and synths and its not just something that is created at random.
Jakbeat is a state of mind and different level of musical consciousness.
This sound was influenced from the early inception of dance music.
As a collective we want to produce an impressive slew of no-holds-barred full on electronic/synth rhythm tracks resisting the current trend for an over-calculated digital sound which has retained the musicality in keeping it very real.'
The Beat Bazaar is also proud to present John Heckle.
Like many Merseysiders before him, John was discovered under the arches of Cavern Club in Liverpool. Blowing people away on three decks at Alcatraz at the tender age of fifteen, John caught the eyes of heroes Regis and Surgeon, who took one listen to a demo of his music and gave it to RSB records. The track was released in 2006 on vinyl under the moniker Hek. The Murder Boys themselves played that very record on the Maida Vale sessions on BBC Radio One not long after.
John was then offered a residency in the emerging Rehab event at the famous Lemon Lounge in Liverpool. With a policy of not booking big names and free entry, people flocked from as far as Glasgow and Dublin to revel in the music. John quickly cemented the peak time slot until the night came to a close after its Third Birthday. In this time John was offered more production work, one notably in aid of a Parkinsons Disease Charity.
Various gigs around the UK followed, as he added Roland Drum Machines to his fast paced Live/DJ shows. Production took a back seat during this time, as John concentrated on the quality of his performances. In 2009, following a 2-year release hiatus, he rekindled his passion for production after becoming inspired by the music of record label Mathematics Recordings (in particular the music of Jamal Moss, whom John had travelled to Belgium to see perform live). The purchase of a Roland synthesizer with his brother Bill shortly after marked the beginning of a new sound in Johns production; a sound which consequently bled into his still-frantic DJ sets.
In 2010, John was signed to Mathematics Recordings, releasing the exceptionally well-received Life On Titan EP, to cap the peak of his short career so far. A track on Tabernacle Records soon followed, before a track on Music from Mathematics Vol.7 and 2011s The 4th Dimension EP. 2011 also saw the release of his hotly awaited debut album, 'The Second Son', as well as a further EP -'Extrovert/Introvert' -on Tabernacle Records.
John continues to perform, using an assortment of hardware to accompany his ever-varying vinyl selections. Full hardware live shows are now also available as part of his repertoire.
