Ariwo (live), Ron Obvious (live)
This show marks the first in a series of live Sunday sessions produced by MANANA records at Pickle Factory over the coming months.
ARIWO are a London based electronic group that are hard to classify. Expect growling modular synth lines, afro-Cuban polyrhythms, distortion, lost carnival melodies, hypnotic bass lines and plenty of head space. A mixture of live electronic goodness, horns, mixed Cuban percussion and chants that will set you up nicely for the week ahead.
"Formidably integrated. A sonic terra incognita guided only by a hypnotic and dubwise focus on forward motion" [The Wire]
Their latest single Pyramid (“Ariwo at their dark/hypotic best” – RA) has seen the band take a new musical direction and resulted in bookings at festival all over Europe. Ariwo have a new album coming out later this year featuring heavyweights of the UK jazz scene. This performance will be the first airing of these tracks and an opportunity to see Ariwo experimenting with new performance ideas.
Ariwo will be joined by MOBO winning Saxophonist Binker Golding (Binker & Moses) for tonight’s performance.
Support comes from South London producer, Ron Obvious who has been gathering momentum with a string of incredible releases on L.B Produce and Rhythm Section sub label International Black.
