  • Throughout June, we celebrate UK Dance music's most dynamic period- the decade of pirate radio. It was a time characterised as a melting pot for the creation of what is now known as the London sound, taking you through the genres of: jungle, garage, grime, dubstep, UK funky and beyond. Cast yourself back to a time when stations were at risk from both the Police and rival stations battling to pledge allegiance to a viciously talented roster of MCs and selectors. On Friday 8th June we rewind to the golden days of 2step & garage in all it’s gucci and moschino glory. Pitching up US productions from the likes of Masters at Work and Todd Edwards and mixing it with their own, ruder sounds, UK pirates began creating such an infectious sound and image that it began to rule the airways, it wasn’t long before the sound became commercialised. This Friday, we focus on the underground sounds associated with the genres, inviting a key player from the early days of UK Garage, Zed Bias AKA Maddslinky. Bearer of the 2step and breakbeat garage flags, Zed's unique touch and influence is noticeable across all origins of bass music. Joining the lineup is Nu-Birth AKA Danny Harrison, who’s productions including ‘Anytime’ became the benchmark for the speed-garage sound, layering up chopped jungle beats with the iconic garage sub bassline.
