MATRIXXMAN (Dekmantel, Ghostly International / US)
A new force in techno has emerged. Matrixxman is an American producer of stripped-down analogue acid house and techno who has been busy soundtracking the technological singularity that unfolds before us.
His sound tends to be cold and mechanical, yet somehow retains an element of warmth, perhaps even soul. It’s a sound that has found a home on acclaimed labels such as Dekmantel, Ghostly International and Figure, and his talents have been enlisted to remix singles by artists as diverse as Depeche Mode, Simian Mobile Disco and Len Faki.
Matrixxman emerged in 2014 with his debut EP The XX Files, which received critical acclaim from elite media such as Pitchfork, The Fader, Spin and Fact Magazine while garnering heavy support from the likes of Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink and Dubfire.
The following year Ghostly International released Matrixxman’s 2015 full-length debut, Homesick, which continued to refine his minimal acid house style, but also included a few ambient pieces and reflected his obsession with sci-fi and technology.
In the three years since, the techno futurist has continued his march towards the future, bringing his “resurgent techno atavism” regularly to the world’s top clubs including Berghain and Fabric, and making headline appearances at renowned festivals such as Dekmantel and Awakenings.
This March, Matrixxman will be making his Hong Kong debut at a special limited-capacity event at Afterdarkandbeyond hosted by promoters PUSH, with support from Frankie Lam, AKW and Ray Dollars.
