The artists behind Maertini Broes are DJ Clé and Mike Vamp from Berlin. Both can be seen as pioneers of the electronic music movement in Germany and beyond since its early days end of the '80s.
Märtini Brös (aka Maertini Broes) is a German indietronic dance musical duo from Berlin, who have toured extensively throughout Europe and overseas. The project is a collaboration between DJ Clé (born in West Berlin) and Mike Vamp (born in Frankfurt). Both became established on the electronic music scene in Berlin during the 1980s and 1990s as Djs and remixers.
The duo first worked together in 1997 as part of an effort to translate the opera Don Giovanni at the E-werk into an electronic version. Their sound incorporates techno and house combined with lyrics sung in German and English. As a live act the band usually performs with sequencers and electric guitars.
Maertini Broes have provided remixes for numerous artists; the most significant include Missy Queen's Gonna Die by Tok Tok with Soffy O, Bleib Geschmeidig by 2raumwohnung and Filthy and Georgeous by Scissor Sisters. Tiga has used several tracks on his progressive house compilations on Turbo Recordings, including DJ-Kicks.
We don’t know exactly when Clé and Mike Vamp called themselves „Maertini Broes“ for the first time, but it should have been at one of their first joint club-gigs in the early Berlin club-days, One of them spinning records and the other vamping on guitar, keyboard or on the microphone.
Since 1998 they have been creating hymn-like Electro-House-tracks, benefiting from the huge musical background of their lifetime experience as DJs and musicians.
You can always hear how much fun they had producing their music. Accordingly they write lively, strong and unique songs; sometimes with a funky guitar and sometimes with an 80ies-Moroder-bass. What starts as a sparse rhythm-and-vocal-sample framework condenses down to that kind of music that hits the spot.
The first „Maertini Broes“ 12inch “Material Love EP” was released on Raw Elements in 1998, their fourth release “Saviours Of The Universe” (Pokerflat Recordings #13) in 2000 already included their first hit: “Flash” which became the anthem of a whole club generation.
