Italian born DJ and Producer based in Southern Arizona, US
Elio Sottoscritti is feverish about electronic music, for him it's much like the rush of discovering gold. The difference is, where others would squander such riches, he's driven to share every ounce of it he finds as an artist and DJ under his moniker Eliogold. Early on he would learn to treasure audio, growing up in the household of a sound engineer father. Electronics and audio equipment were always strewn about, much like a typical boy's toys. Being from Florence, Elio would pick up on the traditions of central Italy’s house and techno from exposure to big name clubs and parties like Cocorico’, Fortezza da Basso, and Jaiss. Cassette tapes from the aforementioned, and signed by Cirillo himself, would be lifted from a friend's older club devoted brother. But it wasn't until the early 00s that Elio was old enough to make sense of the sounds for himself, seeking out spots like the Metempsicosi parties and even catching the tail end of Jaiss' legacy. Godfathers of the scene such as Gabry Fasano, Francesco Zappala’, Ricky Le Roy, and Francesco Farfa would influence his taste in dance music, while international acts like Sven Vath, Carl Cox, Monika Kruse, and Chris Liebing would awaken him to the globally recognized phenomenon that his experience was a part of. Eventually, in 2005, he’d take up the turntables just like his hero figures. While sifting through Central Italy's greater movements, from techno to more of a house and minimal style, he would get a glimpse at what would provide the foundations for his own sound. Tenax in Elio’s hometown of Florence quickly became his stomping ground and he'd develop close ties with its soon-to-be successful residents Philipp and Cole, while also admiring all time legend Alex Neri. His career as a language teacher would open the doors for Elio to explore Spain and the UK, before finally crossing the ocean to the US. In each place he would find solace through hunting down the best of the local scenes and immersing himself in them, from the crazy bacchanals of Spain, to the hallowed institutions in the UK, and even the more secretive, harder to find spots around the States. These travel experiences enlightened Elio to one of the more powerful components of music. "It made me aware that music is the best way to connect with different people, as a shared mutual passion," he says. Balancing these experiences with equal amounts of discovery in the studio the whole time, Eliogold has been toiling away at finding the right sounds through which to express himself as an artist producer for years, finally hitting stride in 2012 and releasing on UK based label Axon Recordings, run by Che Armstrong. Today, Elio is creating the groundwork for new movements in the deserts of Arizona under the banner of the Dazed and Confused movement and in club nights. Thanks to his work as a party organizer and leading artist, he hosted and played at events alongside international guests such as Supernova, Hector Romero, My Favorite Robot, Fabio Della Torre, and more. Recently, he released his new 'Stolen Dream EP' on NY-based label Pythagoras Recordings. He’s bringing a taste of Italy, and the world, to Tucson, but melded in with the city's own unique touch. His passion for sound and work within communications has not only brought him to this moment, but it's brought him to terms with music’s universal truth too. "Being a language instructor taught me that there is only one language that needs no translation and that’s music. There is nothing more inspiring than that and that’s what keeps me going." This understanding has shaped Eliogold, a rare and valuable find for any listener who would be so fortunate to uncover.
